Where else would they withdraw to?

This is new. In the past teh French surrendered first and then withdrew. they sure are innovative.

They are in France. I would imagine it would be hard to find someone there to accept the surrender since they are all trying to surrender to each other. Maybe they gave up and decided to skip that step?

Q: Why are the boulevards in Paris all tree-lined?
A: The Germans like to march in the shade.

French bread is too crusty. So are most French women.

Now that's just wrong. What I wouldn't give for a good loaf of chewy, crusty French bread here in middle America... dang. The French have their faults (as we all do), but leave the beer and bread out of it!

Both smell a bit yeasty too, I wonder if that's why we call it French Bread.

Indeed, while french bread is the result of it's lean ingredients . . . what passes for most bread in this country perhaps reflects the culture . . . soft, squishy, and tasteless.

I look forward to my infrequent visits to Panera Bread. It's about the closest we can get to good stuff within an hour of my house.

Maybe not in your part of the country. But in NJ, we have good crusty French/Italian bread. (Tomatoes and corn too, the best).

There's more of the bad stuff in Shop-Rite than the good.
