My aunt claims she saw one once, and called the local police. The next day an air force officer showed up at her door....

I don't think that would happen if it was all a big joke

Unfortunately, that is all I know of the story

I am talking about --

1) seeing in vivid detail several very visible craft perform all sorts of maneuvers at incredible speeds over a long period of time.

2) clearly seeing a craft from directly below, hovering silently above at a low altitude, seeing lights and details on the bottom of the craft

Well, could they be experimental govt air craft? Maybe, but if that is the case, then judging by what these craft were able to do, we already have the ability to travel in and out of space to great distances at will and we just aren't being told about it.

Which unlikely scenario is more likely? You chose!

I've never seen one personally, but the two people I am describing saw these things very clearly and would not lie to me.
I'd love to see a UFO as long as I don't get abducted.

Here's my theory.

There are several different races of aliens that regularly visit the earth. Gray's, Dinosaur like creatures and maybe more. The government is slowly preparing the public for the eventual release of this information. The young are being prepared throught cartoons such as "Barney and friends" and "Teletubies" (they are the Greys, I mean come on, they live on a spaceship in the program) Adults throught movies such as "Alien" and "Predator". The information will probably not be released until the chlidren of today reach adulthood. My six year old is well aware of what an alien is. He has a bunch of Lego sets that have Greys in them....

Me too!

I do not want the "anal probe"!

Yes, I believe in the math same as you.

If you take the probability that sentient life came about on this planet.
And apply that to the known number of planets in the universe.
You can mathematically prove that sentient life exists somewhere else.

So that makes it a waiting game.
Do we make it to where they are, or will they make it here ?

It would be cool as **** to have an alien neighbor living in the house next door.

We will never be visited unless someone figures out a way to travel faster than the speed of light.

I don't think so. Maybe other races live very long lives and are prepared to spend the time traveling between solar systems. Maybe they will build multi-generational ships where they live their whole lives traveling and their descendants reach the destination?

I would imagine that civilizations will just expand to other planets and solar systems, as humans have to fill the whole globe.

Or some other way. We as Earthlings have a long long way to go in discovering the secrets and wonders of the universe. We've pobably only scratched the surface, if that.

Not only that, but perhaps there is a way to travel faster than the speed of light. I wouldn't be too surprised if some alien civilization that's much more advanced than we are figured it out. Or perhaps worm holes do exist in the universe, who knows. We're just starting to learn about dark matter which supposedly makes up most of the universe. There's so much we still don't know.

Even at the speed of light our planet is reachable within a human lifetime. For example our nearest star Alpha Centauri is "only" 4 light years away and we don't even know what exactly orbits around it.

As for what kinds of species are out there, it could be beyond our imaginations...there could be races of electric masses floating around, who knows!

With this in mind, another thing to consider is the likelyhood that a race could come to Earth and actually survive..although if they have the technology to get here, I'm sure they know what they would be up against and prepare accordingly.

It's just mind boggling to think about how vast the universe is, and what lie within it.

I think a major hurdle of light speed would be making sure that there was nothing in the way of your path! How would you know?! Whatever radar-like device was created would have to travel faster than the speed of light, as well!!

You'd have infinite mass so you would just go right through whatever was in your way.

No, you'd need to have zero mass to go at the speed of light.

.

Would you even have mass at that point ?

Would you not be energy if you were moving at light speed.

.

Thats right, you would be both at the same time.
And neither at the same time.
Particle and wave.
Not particle, not wave.
