Willing suspension of disbelief.

Actually, my mind is simple enough that most of the inconsistencies go right over my head.

My favorite scene of all time is the end of "Rio Lobo". John Wayne squeezes off 14 shots from an old Colt "Peacemaker". Of course, any "cowboy gun" afficianado knows the Colt was always kept with the one chamber unloaded because the beasties had a nasty habit of sudden discharges.

Shucks, if he had filled that chamber he could have probably got off 20 shots or better.

I guess Bones had an ample supply of whatever was needed to deal with the intergalactic STDs Kirk would get infected with after the encounters...

Airplane, was the only movie that involved an aircraft that I didn't at some point think: "Yea right."

Sorry - I forgot to mention, "because I know it was a spoof".

As I recall, I saw that flick about five times to catch everything being done, said, shown etc. I may still have missed a few things, for that matter.

May need to get it out some night.

If you enjoy "Airplane" ( and who doesn't, you must watch " The High and Mighty". Not only is it a decent drama with John Wayne, it furnished many of the shots that were spoofed in "Airplane".

Back when I was in college, mid 80s, U of Wash., the student newspaper sometimes had a section, the "On this day . . ." kind of thing and one day, one of the items was:

" . . Spock raised his last eyebrow, Bones said "I'm just a country doctor" for the last time, and Kirk nookied with his last alien -- Star Trek was canceled."

I still remember the letter I wrote in, which they printed:

This is your captain speaking. Nookied with my last alien indeed! Need I remind you that our 5 year mission is to explore strange new life, to boldly go where no man has gone before?! I should hope not.

As for my purported demise, it may interest you to learn that in the last week I have been privileged to interact at close hand, so to speak, with a most fascinating new life form on the planet Hedonia, in sector RX-8. Certain of their customs are of great interest to me, and should you choose a more respectful tone, I may consider sharing some of my discoveries about them with you.

For the time being however, consider yourself confined to quarters. That is all.

Capt. James T. Kirk

Car chases annoy me. Seriously, a Ferrari catches up to a Hummer in .8 seconds. Also, muscle cars are faster then Yukons, except maybe in turns. But no, if it's a chase, the bad guy could be on a Vespa and still keep up with James Bond.

Thankyou. What was the one in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a dodge minivan outrunning three 5 series BMW's? Now Ronin, theres a car chase that got everything right.

How about where the car chasing a plane taking off, the car not only catches, but out runs, a plane during takoff roll.

And then how many airport runways are 8 miles long ? Some movie, I think more like 80.

I don't really critique movies that much. I'm good with the inconsistencies and such. Also, I very seldom wince . . . .

As purely unbelievable as they are, horror movies truly horrify me. I can't watch them. Too much orange sunshine, I guess.
