Wasn't there that guy a while back who was run over and laying out in the middle of the road and no one even bothered to call 911? My wife just told me of a a lady who was abducted out of her home. She was in the back of a Camaro, hands duct taped. There were several witnesses but no one called (the wittinesses came forward after she was raped, killed and her body was dumped).

The callousness and level of self-centeredness (not sure if its a word) in this country is amazing. And wen it happens to people, they wonder why no one helps them?

I'd have run the SOB off the road (in my wifes car).

People suck.

Why do people think they are owed assistance? Nobody owes you anything. If you get assistance when you are in trouble, good for you. If not, deal with it yourself. I don't go around life expecting that somebody owes me and will be looking out for me. I fully expect that someone will MYOB and take care of their own needs. If they come to my assistance, great. If not, I don't expect, or worse yet, demand it. So, if you see that NYC is like that, either move somewhere else where they are more caring or suck it in and live with it.

If I can, I don't go into a dangerous area. If I must, I might decide to pack something for self defense. I certainly would not assume others will rush to my aid, knowing what I know of people. Therefore, when others are in need, why would I want to stick my neck out? I realize they don't owe me a thing and I don't owe them a thing. As far as the police, that is a different story. That is THEIR JOB. How is that anarchy? Because I don't intend to stick my neck out for them? Will they do the same for me?

You talk a pretty tough game, but I'll bet, if push came to shove, and you had the wherewithall to help a young mother and kids who were being brutally attacked, you wouldn't turn and walk away. I think it is just a basic instinct for most good people to want to help their fellow man when they can.

In NYC, you can probably kill someone and nobody would call the police. In fact, it's already happened.........probably more than once:

Yes and no. If by helping, you mean, will I call someone on my cell? Probably. If by helping, you mean, will I jump in and help her. I have doubts. We had a nun that drove off the road and into the lake. Problem was that the lake was frozen and so she got to the point where the ice was thin enough and she was far away enough when she went thru that she was not reachable. (100 yards or so). Car was sinking slowly and she managed to stick her head out. Now, I put a call in and let them come get her. That is the extent of my intervention. Would I put myself at risk for her? Absolutely not. Why? Because based on what I see of people, I can't expect them to do the same.

It's called "Bike Theft Revenge". I don't see the revenge anywhere in there. As for the nobody stopping me whine, why should they? It's a bike, it's a large city where people are anonymous, and if the dude has a weapon, it's not worth risking your life over someone's stupid bike.

What did the idiot in the video expect everyone to do? Perform a "citizens arrest" on the guy stealing the bike? What if the guy wasn't even stealing the bike and just lost his lock key? Is that person supposed to do some kind of detective work, for you? I don't think so...

You leave your bike, you take your chance. Just like eveyone else. It's a calculated risk. Don't depend on someone else to save your sorry a$$.

It doesn't take a village.

Geeeezz, you folks take all the fun out of everything. What you say is true in what has become of our society and the risks we all take on when we do try to help each other. Just sad but true. Sorry I brought it up.

Later on, in the video, IIRC, there was a police van. Maybe those people were supposed to do something?
