The Future of Off-Road Motorcycling

http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/index.php

Quote:
The Zero X accelerates from 0-30 in under 2 seconds! The Zero's electric motor delivers over 20 horsepower and similar performance to a 250cc gas powered off-road motorcycle. With an electric motor you get 100% torque at all times for instantaneous throttle response and incredible off-the-line performance.

Because the Zero is so amazingly light, it's power-to-weight ratio is unsurpassed by anything else on the market.

I'd imagine if it was outfitted with all the street legal lights it would be OK.

I saw this bike on a TV show yesterday. It's only the first generation design and they had it compete against a 250 cc gas bike.

It did surprisingly well in all contests but a distance jump which they blamed on the rider not being familiar enough with the feel of the bike. It outperformed the gas bike in an all-terrain race. I think it did so because the bike is much lighter and can be maneuvered more easily. On a flat out straight race the electric bike was only 1 mph slower across the finish line.

I think the next generation design will be incredible.

I saw that too...IMHO it's a fantastic idea and good execution first time out.

I think he's got a ways to go on suspension geometry however. There's something weird looking about how it handled...could be the suspension is really for a heavier bike and softer springs would solve it.

A 125# electric scoot would be a friggin' killer bike in observed trials.

That is cool but it's just not the same racing without the buzz and blare of 2 stroke engines...

Much as the concept sounds pretty cool, no way I'd shell out $8K for on off-road bike, with a 40 mile range.
