I think that's awesome! Another fantastic combination of visionary investing by Branson and Rutan's sheer genius.

They can do what they want with their money.
The general public, on the other hand, has to toe the line.

Do you think an Iraqi would like that rationalization

Has nothing to do with Iraq.
Thats pretty much the difference between a conservative and liberal: Conservative: Its their money, they can do what they want with it. Liberal: I'm going to tell them how they should spend their money.

Virgin Galactic is a private enterprise, and not government related.
In the same vein, what would an Iraqi think about Al Gore's traipsing around the globe in his big ole jet, preaching about pollution/warming - when it doesn't do the Iraqi any good...matter of fact, less oil usage could hurt him (or at least his government, in lost oil export revenues). An educated Iraqi, would probably think that a private firm offering flights in to space is pretty damned neat. A Redneck Iraqi might say that Al Gore is anti-Iraqi. The fact that we have digressed into world politics, and political philosophy is an insult to the original thread - which was to celebrate a great step forward into the future of air/space travel.

Whose earth is it? Money comes from the wealth of the earth mixed with sweat. Some money comes at great cost to the earth.
None of this stuff is simple.

One of the reasons some people, myself especially, try not to participate in any threads is because someone inevitable pops up and turns things into a political thread.
Not accusing anyone in particular btw, just brought it up because of this one. .02

OK, I hear what you are saying. It was just my initial reaction to the story and it was not meant to be political. I do think that if or when space travel becomes more common, this is how it will happen as it will take private enterprise to make it cost effective. Aslo, if you know anything about Branson, he seems to be a big believer in Peak Oil. I saw him interviewed on CNBC. He was asked what he thought was the biggest economic threat in the future and he said declining oil production. He has been setting up bio-diesel plants to produce fuel for Virgin`s jets. Doesn`t it make you wonder when powerful people who are in the highest circles (Bilderberger and such) start doing these thing. Sorry, I have gotten way off topic, cool plane |
