Obsessed

Do people ever say to you that "you are obsessed with benz"? I get this now from freinds from school but dont talk about it much...just when conversations come up about cars, I am the one talking about Benz.

My wife says I am. I don't think I'm that bad at all. She thinks I am just because I read this forum! Hmmm...

After my sister caught me taking pictures of my car in front of her house a couple weeks ago her response was that I really needed to get another girlfriend (it's been six months since the last one).

Oh well.... gotta blind date (a friend of an acquantance of a girl I know at the gym) Thursday night-- Halloween. If she shows up to the bar as what I think is Frankenstein but informs me that she didn't dress up, can I run??

How about driving slowly past plate glass windows and watching the wheel spokes flip over? Or driving behind those chrome plated tanker trucks and watching the reflection as you "motor" down the highway?? Do you have pictures of your car in your office or place of work?? Does your car have a pet name?? Do you talk to it while driving? When you get out of it and walk away do you turn one last time and look at it?? :p Yeah, we may be obsessed!!

Hahahahaaaa! Cap'n, I do the exact same things! So, I guess the answer is YES, I'm obsessed...much to the dismay of my girlfriend...My bandmates just roll their eyes...they don't understand! LOL

Those who say "you are obsessed" are simply not enthusiasts. They'll never understand!

yes, I do the following:

* (try to) park my car where I can see it, while eating at a fast food joint or restaurant. I never tire of looking at it from a distance to appreciate its looks, compared with those of newer cars. While inspecting your car in your garage, it looks different up close, and there are subtle details that are only apparent from a distance. The Euro headlamps, for example, look very sophisticated head-on, from a distance. The car looks very distinctive when viewed from above.

* look at my reflection off a glass wall while driving by. But when I'm in a parking lot and facing the glass wall, I check my headlights and highbeams (i.e., flash-to-pass highbeams). If facing away from the glass wall, I check my rear or brake lights. And when reversing, also my backup lights.

* look at my reflection off a stainless steel tanker on the highway. I've long wanted to take a picture of that. When driving at sunset, I also look at the car's shadow ...

* whenever I take pictures when I go out with friends, I try to include the car in the background. I'm the one usually taking the pictures in our group, and as a result, have few pictures of myself. The car is my stand-in, I figure. Once when our group went out I took a nice artistic picture of our cars in the parking lot with no person in the picture, and my friend thought that was strange of me to do that.

* i wash the brake dust off my wheels and put carnauba wax on them. I torque-wrench all my wheel bolts.

* When filling up at a gas station, I squeegee my Euro headlamps (i rarely see other people doing this). When I clean the rear lamps, I only clean the inner rib faces (where the squeegee fits neatly) - the ribbed design was intended to keep the inner faces clean, and I'm only "helping" it. ;-)

* when in a parking lot with other drivers, I slam my door to make them hear how solidly the doors of this teenage-old car sound. The rear doors, in particular, slam very solidly.

* in winter, I take the time to warm up the car when picking it up at the train station on my way home. I am amazed at how many drivers (mostly female) start their cars and *immediately* rev the engine and head home. When leaving home on a cold morning, I take it through a low-traffic warmup route of about 1km before joining the morning rush on busier streets.

* i put up my dashboard sunscreen everyday when parking it in the train station on my way to work. Even in winter.

* i park at the ends of parking lanes or beside empty handicapped lanes, and park near that line, to increase the distance between my car and the other car, to reduce door dings

* before a long trip, I treat my hood, front fenders and roof with carnauba wax, to protect against bug strikes

... but I didn't replace my stolen hood star ...
