chrome removal (rims)?

Anyone successfully removed chrome from a set of aluminum rims (as a DIY project)? I have a decent set of rims I'd like to use on my W124, but the chrome is peeling and generally just ugly as sin. I took them to a local fellow who tried to sand blast them, and he had no luck (or didn't want to mess with them, anyway). The little bit I have found on stripping chrome all seems to indicate that they'll probably need to be dipped. Any other options that any of you know of?

Thanks!

The only proper way to remove chrome is to have them dipped. Anyone who does chrome plating/restoration will be able to do it. You could do it yourself but that means going out and finding/buying the acids. It would be way cheaper in the long run to have a pro do it for you.
