I wouldn't say snacks are deadly. Snacking can help keep a steady metabolism and avoid hunger, but only if you eat the right snacks. Something like fruit, a few carrots or a yogurt can keep your metabolism rolling and help you avoid overeating at meals because you're so hungry from starving all day.

Yeah, but my habit is late night cereal, which I will put to a stop.

Years ago Iwas up to 260 pounds at 5'11". I started running and built up to 3 miles a day and lost 60 pounds in 6 months. It wasn't really my diet but more of a lack of exericse. All i did was cut out soda and any desserts like ice cream etc.

I am now a more muscular 215 pounds but am flabbier than I'd like to be in the gut area.

Me too, although I tend to just eat a lot of vegetables, fruits and black coffee (I guess coffee doesn't count as snacking ... but I feel I need to do something to offset the healthiness of the others things I consume). I also run, although no way near as much as I used to. I probably weigh about 110-115 at 5-foot-6ish.

Yeah but fruits don't count as snacks! They are healthy and all good for you and stuff.

I'm talking about these bad boys and all their friends!

From 7th grade all the way until the end of highschool, I was quite overweight. I weighed 221 lbs, and I was only about 5'9. I decided to do something about it by college. I lost over 70 lbs in half a year. No excercise, no starvation. At least not perceived.

All I simply did was shift my focus onto something else I enjoyed doing. If you find yourself engaged in an activity you enjoy, you will find yourself shedding pounds and not realizing it until you take the time to notice. I ate because it made me feel better, man. It was a way to field stress and depression.

If I was overweight and claimed "I'm going to lose X lbs by doing this, this, yada-yada, etc., etc.," I would likely fail at some point and end up back where I started. I found it easier to commit to losing weight once I found a passion that replaced my cravings.

I have been 150 - 170 lbs for the past 7 years. And was 200 + lbs for the preceding 5. I am ~150 lbs now, but underweight because I'm 5'11, "muscular" and large-boned.

Very good point. People over-eat out of boredom too. Or they need something to do with their hands when they are around other people, since smoking is no longer cool.

I've been over-eating out of stress. I've been dealing with some family issues for a while now and sometimes when you look around and everything seems to suck, about the only thing left that you have control of is eating. I've learned the meaning of "comfort food"...

Yeah, that's too bad but you're right, it works. Take a look around at people sometime. You'll notice that some have a case of the GA's and I'd be willing to bet that they're smokers...

This week I'm on a strict brownie diet. People keep bringing food over to my sister's house, and most of it is dessert. I'll be fat as a pig by the end of the week.

I drink a lot of coffee so I don't pay attention to any bad coffee news.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080616170839.htm

ScienceDaily (June 17, 2008) — A new study has good news for coffee drinkers: Regular coffee drinking (up to 6 cups per day) is not associated with increased deaths in either men or women. In fact, both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee consumption is associated with a somewhat smaller rate of death from heart disease.

4 years ago my sister lost 96 pounds. She said she cut all the crap food and worked out on a regular basis. And she is still looking good. She had a support group on line. They get together about once a year out of town somewhere. My sister says it does help to have a support group. Also Fitness Magazine did an article on her with pictures and everything, we were very proud of her. Were hear for you.
