just picked up this crashed 1990 560 sec. hit in the front, clear title. 140k, decent condition. i'm wondering if i should fix it or part it? rt front fender, hood, grill are gone and rad support is bent but it isn't much worse than that. picking it up friday.

I always believe that you should fix these vehicles if it's economically reasonable to do so. Parting them out should be a last resort. That vehicle is definitely a rare vehicle, so extraordinary measures should be taken to avoid parting it out.

Looks pretty fixable, so if you want it to drive, I say fix it. However, if you're looking to make money off it, be forewarned that the getting prices on pretty much anything with a V8 have gone in the tank lately.

It was a stock unmolested low mile original, in the best color, so I would fix it.

The car itself was new, $84,000 in the last years, and the flagship of all the Mercedes Benz cars.

All the parts to fix it are available new from the Mercedes Benz dealer or at the MB classic center, but the price for new parts can be staggering, as the hood is made of aluminum and could cost $7,000 for just that!!

Mine is a fully refurbished 1991 that I have owned since it was nearly new when I bought it from a Mercedes Benz dealer near DIsneyland

It was well kept from new, and I have all the books and records from 1992 to prove it.

Just yesterday, coming from Los Angeles to Palm Springs, a 287 mile trip, on the road near Barstow, some hotshot and his friend were driving a brand new BMW 330i cabriot, so new it still did even have plates on , just the temp tags and the licence plate inserts from the selling new car dealer, Alexander BMW in Los ANgeles

They tried to overtake me, but were no match for my experience and skill on handling my AMG modded SEC.

At speeds above 135 mph they could not catch and pass, and finally gave up when they exited at Baker, after about a half an hour.


If the subframe isnt wrecked, then fix it. A car to last a lifetime

Doesn't really look that bad. Hoods are a lot but new fenders are cheap. I'm sure you could find one in a junk yard to get the sheet metal from.

There are parts cars to fix your car everywhere! It really wouldn't be that expensive! With a combination of used and new parts it's do-able. When you're done, put a new coat of paint on it and it will be great! That engine can be modded to be super fast, even by today's standards.

I say fix it. The color is very nice (not as nice as my former RED coupe, but nice all the same) and the coupes are rare, fun-to-drive cars.

I don't have JimB's boy-racer instincts so I prefer the smaller and lighter 300CE, but the SEC's are nevertheless a hoot to drive.

Fix it!
