Rays or Phils: who do you like in the WS?

Who do you like this year? I am an NL fan, but I have to go with the Rays for their incredible season.

The home town boys!

Remember all, it's St Petersburg, NOT Tampa. This city paid and built the Trop!

Rays in 6....

Although I could care less about baseball, I'm rooting for the Rays as a guy I work with's son is pitching. (Matt Garza) His father Rudy is in the National Guard in Fresno and is really proud. Rudy is a great guy and I couldn't be happier for him and his son.

I spent my senior year of HS in Tampa, and we spent many an evening at Madeira Beach. St Pete was a favorite stomping ground, too. Oh, to have a 4th Street Shrimp Shop meal again... good times!

I am in awe of the Rays making is with such a low payroll. Their scouts deserve a raise. The roster is loaded with guys they drafted in the 1st and 2nd round.

Exactly. Gotta love the "kids" making waves like this.

ESPN just did a similar poll and pretty much the whole country picks the Rays except Pennsylvania

Unless the owner(s) can match Yankee or Boston deep pockets, expect those young guys to be gone in a few.... Can't keep them all, or can they?
Some may follow Beckett out of FLA.

So far so good...... And thank you So. Cal.for giving the Phillies Cole Hamels and Chase Utley. Also thanks to the Dodgers, who gave up on Victorino..twice.

Brett Meyers: An enigma. He'll either be lights out or it'll be "turn out the lights" early.

The Phils had the best record in the NL on the Road (44-37), second only to the Angels in 2008. Tampa loses tonight...lights go dim in the Dome.

That was the best pitching WS opener I can remember (I do have a relatively short memory).

Go Phullies!

Pretty well pitched game, but stage fright no doubt helped both starters and relievers. wiff, wiff, wiff, ...that's just Ryan Howard..

I was lucky enough to see a well pitched Series opener. 1961... the year of the M&M boys home run chase of Babe Ruth's magical 60. Whitey Ford (25-5)pitched a two hitter (singles) and the Yankees beat Cincinnati 2-0.

The game started with Mantle on the bench and both Ford and O'Toole living up to their advanced billing. Neither team scored until Yankees' catcher Elston Howard, leading off the fourth, sliced a drive to right field for a home run. In the sixth, Bill Skowron hit a home run to left field for the Yankees' second run. It was a close game that wasn't decided until the final batter was retired. Ford pitched a two hit shut out as the Yankees won Game 1.

One of my top two father & son experiences.
