Need digital cameral recommendations
Price range up to $150, has optical and digital zoom, does NOT eat batteries, 6-8.2 mp, and small, slim size.
I'm looking at the Fujifilm j10. Great reviews, slim size, 8.2 mp, and around $100! Anyone know how fast it processes a snapshot? Also looking at Samsung and Sony Cybershot. They tend to cost more but other than that I'm not too familiar with them. I curently have an HP 3.2 mp camera that takes iffy pics. Takes forever to process a snapshot. After taking a pic, you gave to wait before you can take another one! The tpics often have a reddish hue. And it's bulky!

couple of sources
The following 2 sites have lots of info. I was looking at 2 mid sized cameras a couple of years ago. I went to a Best Buy or other big box and tried their demo units. The Cannon had slightly better lens and picture reviews, but the Sony focused and actually took the picture more quickly. That was important for me taking sports pictures of the kids. See how they feel in your hands too and how the main controls work.
Digital cameras EAT batteries. If your camera uses regular disposable batteries, find the best rechargables you can. I forget the designation, but something like LiH ... the camera sites will have the info. My Canon Powershot A75 has been a great little camera. I bought it as a temp. camera until the digital Nikon SLR's bodies came down in price but have yet to purchase one as the A75 is covering all my needs. I purchased the Canon about 5 years ago and at the time Consumer Reports had nothing but good to say about the entire Canon line.

We just replaced a 3 year old HP (which was a piece of crap) with a Canon Powershot A750, largely based on the reviews I read on this site:

Stick with a camera manufactureed by a CAMERA company, rather that a computer/printer/film or other type of manufacturer. Canon, Nikon, and Olympus all make great cameras with good lenses. Also, Leica, but Leica is no where near your price range. The software that comes with it is important, too. Canon's is very good.

I have a Canon G7 which is a great camera, but too compicated. Unfortunately, digital cameras all seem to be a lot more complex than I would like.
Give me a 4x5 wood field camera and a light meter, and I'm happy as a clam.

All digital point and shoot cameras share that annoying problem known as shutter lag or delay.
No matter if you press the button half-way down to focus first,when you finally shoot, 'ol Rover is already out of the frame. The answer?a digital SLR of course,but not ALL digital SLRs are as rapid as you like. They are,of course,more expensive such as a really fast shooting camera like the Nikon D-80 will set you back nearly a grand with accessories. Do a google search with the keywords shutter delay times and you'll get a representative selection of tables indicating the shutter speed and frames per second of the leading SLRs Ahh!
