Wow...just seen a BIG one.
Was closing up...stood looking up facing south and saw a long bright trail from 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock just slightly south from 12 o'clock high.
Someone in New Mexico might find that one. Now just need one to land in my yard like that one in New Jersey a few years ago.....a little bit early for the Perseids though. http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors/ .

I saw one big one in my life and I'm still not sure if I really believe it. A friend of mine and I drove about 30 miles away from Seattle to get away from the light to watch one of the meteor showers, this about 20 to 25 years ago.
We saw a lot of small ones and then this thing came low from one side of the horizon, across the sky, and disappeared over the opposite horizon -- lot of trees so the horizon of our field of view was not that far away. We were in a clearing though, so you could see it for a while. It was tumbling sorta slowly and flaming the whole way. Almost too fantastic to believe but both of us saw it.

I was driving east on 20 in northern Indiana about eight years ago at about 2 am and suddenly a really huge one swept across the sky from south to north. It moved very very quickly, was a huge yellow flaming object. It appeared to be traveling just above the treeline, but must have been a lot higher.
I have never never seen anything like it before or since. It was incredible and it was over in a second or less. I wish I had a film of it. Tom W
