USA Lacks Knowledge Of History

Once again, the US government is sticking its nose in where it doesn't belong in commenting on Russia's military intervention in South Ossetia: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_russia_georgia

What this article doesn't tell us, and what the White House doesn't seem to understand either, is that South Ossetia is a small state of mostly Russian citizens that recently broke away from Georgia. When Georgia attacked SO 2 days ago, they asked Russia for help after the Georgia military machine had all but leveled the capital city. In addition, many civilians had fled to safety across the border to Russia. It's obvious that Georgia's cowardly attack on the civilian population of SO was planned to happen while the world's focus was on the opening olympic games in China.

It should also be noted that all of the former Soviet states, including Georgia, and with the exception of the Baltics, asked to become members of the USSR when it was first formed.

I would suggest that our own imperialist government study history outside the USA before criticizing other government actions. And if you look at our own history, you'll see that we have done this same thing - numerous times.

For those not afraid of the truth about the American experience in the world along with our impending demise without immediate change, I urge you to read this new book: The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism - Andrew Bacevich

I dated Georgia, unless she's slowed down a ton she can handle the Russian Army, Air Force...no problem.

Fox News reported the fact that South Ossetia is mostly full of Russians in explaining the fighting. Sounds to me like the Russian military intervention is justified. Even if it isn't, matters between Russia and Georgia are none of our business.

Over the years Russia had lost interest in Cuba, all this is now working in Cuba's favor and Russia once again is showing active interest in helping out Cuba with military aid in the form of missiles. The more US foreign policy crowds Russia, the dangerous the situation will get as Russia will then start making its own counter moves.

As speculation goes, Georgia would serve well as "enemy territory" toward Russia, in case an Israel/US alliance would go after Iran.

No reason we can't make a new friend in the region.

I still don't trust the Russians. I think they'd put a missle up our a$$'s first chance they get personaly.

Georgia won't last a Russian onslaught for long, US help notwithstanding.

You 2 guys are perfect examples of not knowing what you are talking about and spouting nonsence based on our government's propaganda & America's lack of knowledge of the other side of the world. That's right; we are bombarded by just as much propaganda as any other country. If you really want to know what's going on, and what went on in the past, in Russia, I suggest you go live there for a while, just as I did for over 3 years.

I don't expect the US to get involved in this one - it's very localized and we'll, of course, appeal to the UN for resolution. Think Bush wants to get involved in this one after the Iraq BBQ and right before he leaves office?

Nah. The UN, NATO, etc will sit this one out and "Tut-tut" sanctimoniously and ineffectively from the sidelines.

After Russia consolidates the victory everybody will recognize the territorial exchange as a fait accompli. And in reality, NATO has already given it's imprimatur to this activity by it's action own in Kosovo.

Why should they trust us? We're angling to make their missiles useless while we retain our capacity. Were they putting a missile shield system in Cuba we'd be freaking out too.
