Also, Harbor Freight has some inexpensive indicators. The mounting arm is probably as much as the indicator.
Whatt?? My eye can't see .004?

I'll look into Harbor Freight. My $200 bills are not as plentiful as they used to be.

I'm wondering if there might have been some small debris behind the rotor when I put it on. If I take it off and get it turned and the debris is instead some small burr that I don't see, once I put it back on, I'm still on the same problem.

Yeah, I finally got religion about using a torque wrench on that stuff a few years back.

I got converted just recently. It helped with the slight shimmy I had in my Jetta.

Small debris behind the rotor could do it too. You need to be sure that area is completely clean.

Have to say your logic is impeccable. It tracks very nicely at any speed, so it must be brake related.

I'm going to get a dial indicator, and I'm pretty sure I can rig up something that will hold it solidly against the rotor to test for runout.

If I find one is out, I'll remove it and look for debris, put it on and try again. Then get it turned if need be.
