paint booth lighting
Recently purchased a bunch of 4' 2-tube T8 flourescent lights for the paint booth in my workshop.
I've been fighting a losing battle with old age and have surrendered to the need for more light. The space is about 6' deep and 12' wide. I had it lit with 6 75watt reflector-style (PAR) lamps like you'd use on the eaves of your house. Not the best of situations - lots of heat and even flood pattern is too "spotty" at these close distances. The new lights are narrow with a plastic lens of the same "diamond-like" pattern in office lighting the world-over. The lenses are U-shaped. On occasion, spraying a large object will result in overspray being directed towards a light. I would like to cover the lenses with some easy to replace plastic so overspray isn't an issue. Any suggestions? |
Cheap plastic drop cloths that are sold at Lowe's or Home Depot... $2 or more depending on thickness (mil).

Get a roll of this and replace it when it gets too hazy from overspray.

thanks - that's just what I'm looking for. The drop cloths are a good idea too, but I wanted something adhesive for easier installation. Even a small roll is likely to last me for as long as I care to pursue this hobby.
This 3M stuff probably won't have too much tack for easy removal later, plus if I remember correctly, the texture is on the outside of the lens, so this will adhere less, but do a good job of keeping the lens clean from dust, etc. Appreciate all responses. Regards |
I agree that there is no such thing as too much light when painting. I hate it when I think I have a good job.....until the daylight hits it, and I see stuff that I could not see previously.

there are plastic tubeguards for the lamps, but they may not be cost effective if you use it a lot. oh wait nevermind that wont work.
