Hattie I am with you, but there were lots of bad outcomes from the Cold War as well.

Had it not been for the CW, I would now be sitting under a palm tree, on my beachfront estate east of Havana, counting the profits from the family sugar plantation, smoking a good Cuban cigar and drinking daiquiries.

CT builds a lot of weapons, so war is generaly good for the state economy, and creates lots of very comfortable middle class jobs.

However I can see your point!

Horrible depletion of personal wealth, skewing of markets, and general decline of liberty combined with exponential expansion of the federal government's budget and power.

The only good that came of the whole sorry thing was the dissolution of the Soviet Empire.

Despite having won, we did not recoup our money, regain free markets, restore liberty nor diminish the size of government nor have we reduced the federal budget.

I'd rather not have to fight another war at that price.

I agree wars are very expensive. The best war is one avoided.

Around here though I can show you many towns that used to have a thriving defense facility and enjoyed a solid middle class existence, they are now dumps with no good jobs.

We have always made a lot of weapons around here. Heck thats why the British came ashore, and marched through New Haven, and my school.

The Corsair is one of my all-time favorite WWII planes. The reason for the "bent" wings is very interesting. I also like the Hellcat and the P-38.

My son works at the restoration hangar for the local wing of the Commemorative Air Force. I think I mentioned before that his team is restoring a Spitfire. We have a Hellcat and a Zero. It is quite a spectacle to see these two former enemies, hangeared side by side and flying side by side.

Awesome pics, thanks for posting them Hattie.

And this differs from the Iraq war in what way? Oh, except for maybe we haven't won that one yet.
