SL600, owned by a member of Aerosmith?

Hoping some of the enthusiastists here can perhaps dredge up some info I don't have time to at work...

Rumor has it that Aerosmith's drummer, one Joey Kramer, wanted an SL600 a few years back. Thing was, he wanted it in an unusual green color. MBZ said "We won't do it for just one car, you'd need a minimum off three for us to bother". So he said "Fine, I'll take three". He kept one and then sold off the others. That's the rumor anyway. I'd like to know more about it, in particular, is the green SL600 with the passenger headrest signed "Jsomethingoranother, Aerosmith", with CA plates "ERWSMTH" sitting in my bay with traction control problems related in any way to any of this rumor? And if so, how much of the story is true? Is there more to it? Thanks.

I suppose I could, but need I? The history and all is somewhat neat, but aside from the signature, the car is just another SL600.

Kramer had a narrow escape from a gas station fire a few years back. Story is he was fuelling his Ferrari 355 and the auto shutoff on the pump malfunctioned, allowing the tank to overflow and pool under the vehicle. Fuel was ignited by the cats and burnt to the ground. He was pulled from the engulfed car by the attendant with burns on his arms. No word on vehicle color nor headrest status.

So I was looking around at my old posts, and came across this one. Thought I'd give it a bump and see if anyone had any info.

Can you ask the owner about it?

That's where I got the story I had, but if working on cars all these years has taught me anything, it's never believe the cars owners. They'll lie about anything for any reason.

For god's sake people, just tell me that you dropped a sparkplug down the intake, I'll quote you time to repair. Don't waste my time and your money to have me search for the problem when you know what it is!

If you've always owned the car and swear it's never been making this noise before, why do I have records for two other owners bringing it in for a noise problem?

Your brother owned the car and it was never wrecked? Why was it sublet to us by a body shop two monthes ago?

You should see the one that was here last month. Borderline totaled from a jaunt off-road, with extensive undercar damage, no body damage. Her story is that it was parked with the wheels turned and someone hit the edge of the wheel that was sticking out... hard enough to propel the car somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 yds, over a curb, send the curb throught the subframe, steering rack, and the oil pan. It also bent the two drivers side wheels to the point they would not turn. Then apparently it was windy enough to spray the resulting oil all the way back to the rear of the car, completely covering the underside. And at some point, even though the original impact happened with the vehicle traveling in the forward direction, it was drug backwards enough that the wheels that would not turn wore the tread off of the tires down to the steel cords. That must have been some parking lot incident!

So I'm always sceptical of the owners story...

Okay, scratch that.

I guess everybody enjoys a good story. It's a lot better than the truth, when the truth is you've been a moron. "Dropped a sparkplug into where!? Are you kidding? What kind of a moron would do such a thing . . .? Heh, heh. . . "

Our egos are very delicate.

Take it to the Whiskey in LA when some skeletal revival of AC/DC or Kiss is playing and park it with a sign across the windshield asking, "Have you had sex in this car? ". I am sure after a few weekends of doing this, some 45ish woman will be able to confirm the provenance of your car

One of the best "buys" my dad ever granted me was one Saturday morning in HS I was hungover following a date and sleeping through golf and he came in and woke me up at 6:45 before he left to go play. He didn't say anything and I just followed him outside. On the windshield of my mother's car where two bare footprints shining through the morning dew on the passenger side. He said, "just thought you want to clean that **** up before your mother has to go anywhere."

Funny, I've got foot prints on the inside of MY windshield right now. I'd better go get the Windex and clean the windows. Thanks for the reminder, JD.

I thought I'd give this one a bump, since the car is here again. I never seem to remember when I'm at home to Google it and see what I can find. Anyone bored this afternoon want to give it a shot? It's a 96 SL600, some sort of green color, I'll try to see if I can find the name of the color and post it.
