Here is a very interesting site of old photos from the 1860s to the 1950s. I was wondering if the people in these pictures, esp. the women, were put in modern dress, would they look the same as modern women?

1860 - 1950: No Botox, no breast enhancements, and dental crowns looked like Chicklets. I say no.

i think the average life span - at least in nineteenth century- was, well, not long.

if everybody died at 50, ya gotta think they weren't looking so good even at a young age.

While they might look a little older to us, I think they would all still seem pretty much the same. Only big difference would be what was fashionable at the time-fat or thin, pale or tanned. Face it, ya take the clothes off and all humans look pretty much the same. What most people find attractive is pretty much hardwired into our heads. We are going to look for someone to carry on our genes. Simple as that. Thru war, famine, pestilance and disease, good old lust is gonna keep the human race going.

The fashion and beauty industry of today might have helped these girls, but I think today's photographers are more discerning as well.

The life expectancy in 1900 was 47 years. The reason it was so low was a very high infant mortality. A trip to my family's cemetery will show the high number of childred that died. Once people got past say 12 they tended to live a long time. Granted there were higher instances of death in industry and farming but from what I have read the general health was not that bad. Certainly the diet was healthier.

Most of the women on my mother's side lived well past 70 and a couple went over 100. Most were raised of ranches in S. Tx. where medical help was almost nonexistent. The variety of food was limit unless you wanted beef, but all these women grew up to be outstanding cooks.

Of course they would. Why would you not think so? People are people. Hair styles and clothing change but evolution takes hundreds of thousands of years to change humans.
