It's YOU, Ted. Go for it. That would be cool with a diesel engine in it. What engine does the factory put in the diesel versions? I think they sell those in Canada, don't they? I saw one at the airport in Oakland one time.

Now I'm thinking old generation Saab 900. I've owned a few before and always like 'em. Perfect winter car, or not (?)

How important is high ground clearance? Saabs of that gen are pretty decent in this regard, but not SUV-caliber.

Clearance has never been an issue. Just get a good run and blast through the snow bank.

I should be able to find something local on CL in the next months.

Ok, that would be my serious choice.... That Jeep 4.0 is nearly indestructible, as is the Cherokee in general.

A few days ago, we worked on a late 80's Grand Cherokee with the V8. Dang thing had 304k miles!!

The owner was an engineer at Toro/Lawn Boy and said the only major component replaced was the rear-end. Also said that it hauled a boat for many years -- simply amazing. It was cosmetically clean as well, looked more like 80k miles.

Yeah I think that was mentioned, I've heard that Pinzgauers are easier to live with though.
