French Canadian girls and me
I went up to Sol Duc Hot Springs in the Olympics is WA state to meetup with my sister and family, who are there for several days. It's a pretty happening resort in the Nat. Parks system -- many international visitors.
I got there sorta late, around 7 pm and they close at nine. Now and then some very fetching ladies will make an appearance, but it's often moms, dads, and brats. Not too much talent at first and then a group of about 8 arrived, among them two bikini clad hotties in, I think, the 17 to 22 age range. After various close passes to get a feel for the situation, I heard a language I couldn't make out. At first I'm thinking French, but the more I hear it, I'm thinking no, has a Russian feel to it, but not quite, maybe it's one of the other slavic dialects. About drove me nuts. Finally, I make the cmac move, a remark to the older one in passing and she threw her head back with a big smile and laugh. (Be still my foolish heart) It didn't look like it was all one family as two callow youth (boys) were in the group, following the two around like puppy dogs. Saints be praised, at length I noticed the older one looking at me while whispering to her sister about "this guy" and the sister looks too and I could see that unmistakeable, hoped for, buzz of interest. Later, my sister showed up and she and I shared some pleasatries and I see the older one giving me an enchanting smile. I sees my chance and approach, little sister has just come up, I asked them where they're from, and do they speak English. Lohd help me, the sparkling eyes, and all. Quebec City, it turns out, and now I understand what Bot said about cajuns speaking a dialect that the more gentile French in Nahlins looked down their nose at when they encountered it. I mean, I liked the sound of it but it was way different than most French I'd heard. She told me that when they go to France, people will respond to them in English, thinking that they are Americans, trying to learn French (?!?). As for the rendevous, it wasn't meant to be. Too much hovering of Mom and Dad, I didn't even have my own tent -- I was sharing my sister's family's large tent. Oh well, it was fun, and I have a really sweet face in my memories.

Québec City is beautiful, as are the women. Visit Montréal some time as well too. They dress very European there, especially the women, and you'll probably end up in a neck brace after a few days of walking around...

So to speak.
My Quebecois(e) experience last week in Hampton Beach, NH wasn't nearly as memorable. Lots of guys my age and older, girthier and paler than myself, in not-so-flattering bathing suits and older women drawing down crucial strapping and reinforcements to avoid tan lines.

I haven't been there in probably 15 years. I'd really like to get back up there again, it is a beautiful city. However, it would be for a more family friendly trip.

It was a sweet experience but now I'm doing the horrible old dance in my mind: 'if only I'd done this . . . . or said that. . .' or 'I missed the right moment when I didn't . . . . '
I drive myself crazy sometimes.

I might add, on the way back, I took the ferry over to Seattle and oh man, Seattle is one sweet city. I'd forgotten just how fine it is. Of course, being in the noisy, arid Bay Area for so many years, the more lush greenery and relatively quaint streets of Seattle are more refreshing than they were to my jaded eyes years ago.

What you noticed about Quebecois women is also very common - they don't play the same gender stereotyped roles that you're accustomed to and can be very confident when approaching or relating to men. They'll open check you out the way that men all over the world look at women. Confidence is probably the sexiest trait of all.

If y'all don't mind, I'd like to birng this dialogue to the attention of several Quebecois & 'Cadien's who I think would enjoy the discussion even if they don't register & engage.

you couldn't close the deal. Parents are the ultimate c*ckblockers.
French Canadian derived from old French, from Normandy as jlomon said. I can't understand it very well (my mon is French, so I learned it as a kid). It sounds more like German than French to me.

When I was in Quebec many years ago I noticed that the women looked and dressed very attractively!

Between the two of us talking and laughing, the young lady (I found out later she's going to be a junior in college, pre med) gave me a look that I'm going to remember on my death bed. Talk about your confident, I know what I want, kinda look. There was just so much going on that I didn't suggest a rendevous after closing, which was in less than 1 hour. Mom and Dad and snot nosed boyfriends were nearby, but (and I should know by now) faint heart never won the day nor fair lady. (hand smacking forhead smilie) The next day it was way hot, I knew I was going to have to leave at about 2 or 3 pm, and besides, I think she was pissed because I hadn't done the dance well enough the night before. DAMMIT CMAC!!! Oh well, older and hopefully (some day) wiser. Now to book my passage to Quebec City and get a job in the building trades (She'd probably think I was a stalker -- Montreal would be better).

Oh hey, I'd be a humorless old fud if I found that objectionable. Perhaps they'll register and enlighten us all.
