thats about as unique as that "Mercedes-Benz" typewriter (circa 1940's) I recall seeing some time ago. . .

That's funny. I guess companies like that have to have a product line that actually generates a profit or else they'd go out of business.

They actually started as a tractor company. Depending on which story you believe, Lamborghini started building sports cars because:

a) He was pissed of at Enzo Ferrari for some perceived slight/insult surrounding the servicing for one of his own Ferraris and felt he would teach him a lesson by building a better sports car.

OR

b) One of his mechanics showed him a clutch for his tractor that was identical to a clutch found in one of his Ferraris, except that the part for the Ferrari had a list price that was something like 5x the price. Lamborghini wanted a piece of that action.

Maybe someone with more Ferrari history under their belt than I have will fine tune the correct urban legend for me.
