electronic keyless door knob
OK, When I was a kid, in like the third grade, so that would be 1992 my dad got a door knob for our house. It must have been from the future....
the knob was linked to the dead bolt via a laser. it worked like this: you come to the door and grab the knob. if you turn the knob to the right there was a little number screen that started at 0 and counted up 1 2 3 and so in until it got to 9 then started over at 0 if you turned the knob to the left it started at 0 and then counted down 9 8 7 until it gets back to 0 you entered a 4 digit code by twisting the knob back and forth. for example if the code was 4567 then you would turn right to 4 then left to 5 then right to 6 then left to 7 and then you let go of the knob and the screen flashed then you turned the knob and the door opened. if the dead bolt is locked then when the screen is flashing you can turn the outside of the deadbolt and then knob at the same time and the door would open. I loved this door knob when i was a kid because i was never locked out. well only a few times because you could over ride all the electronic locks by locking the door with a key. since I'm buying my first house i've been looking into finding a door knob like this. but NO LUCK. they have keyless locks that have number pads. and some with a finger print reader, but i like the lock my dad had. it was complex enough that most people can't figure it out without some training, but i can remember getting into the house very fast without a key. anyone have any idea where i can get a lock like this? I have roommates and it would be nice to have a keyless lock.
