don't speed through red lights in Oakland

http://www.kcbs.com/Oakland-s-First-Red-Light-Camera-Now-Snapping-Pics/2854909

Quote:
OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- On Tuesday, the city’s first red light camera started capturing the license plates of drivers going faster than the speed limit when the signal turns red at a major intersection near the Coliseum. No citations are going out yet, just warnings.

Barring any major problems, the city plans to invest $4.3 over the next three years to install more than a dozen cameras like the one now at 66th Avenue and San Leandro Boulevard so it can redeploy police officers to other duties.

An Arizona company, Redflex Traffic Systems, is putting the money out upfront in exchange for a slice of the traffic fines its equipment generates.

The city will start issuing citations based on the camera images on Sept. 26.
It only takes pictures of red light runners who are speeding?

Now might be a good time to invest in some sneakers.

We've had them for about four years here in Scottsdale Arizona. Believe me, the city doesn't care about saving lives, these "red light" camaras are to generate revenue for the city, that's all. And they do generate alot! Just like all of the automated photo speed camaras we around here also.
The manufacturer of this equipment tells city manager's this is a "gold mine"!

The author of that article got their facts all screwed up. The camara trips on people running the red light, not speeding. Intersection camaras aren't triggered by speed.

I put a reflective cover over my license plate that I bought on the Internet to "beat" photo camaras. Two days after I put it on my car, a cop stopped me and said he couldn't "read" or "see" my plate properly from "all" angles and if I wanted to avoid a ticket from him right then, that I would have to remove it in front of him right then, and he handed me a screw driver, so I did.

He knew what the deal was...so he messed with me. *********!!!

Remove it and put it back on. I would do that.

They tend to be that way whent hey have the badge and gun. Not like there is much you can do about it. Guess it is nice to shoot fish in a barrel. Like I have said before, I don't need them and don't give a rip if they disappeared.

I seem to recall reading, quite a few times, that the number of speeders AND accidents on the North 101 Loop was reduced after the installation of the fixed position cameras . . . so you're saying that they're not effective?

Frankly, what's the problem with generating revenue from the folks that do speed or run red lights?

Also works as evidence to traffic accidents.

Take this man vs. W210 for instance:

Gotta be careful with these things...they have a tendency to increase rear-end accidents

If that car was a sedan, with a male driver, and a woman passenger taking a quiet nap with her head "resting" in the driver's lap, I think all of us would know exactly who is responsible.

The old lady looks completely oblivious, but unfortunately no story is attached to the picture. I wouldn't recommend going to the website unless you have a very strong stomach.

Did anyone notice the people in the parked VW?
