OK I bought a real girlie car...

I bought a 99 Miata. Its primary use will be the autocross but I think maybe I will drive it to work in good weather.

It has the sport package which includes certain handling apparatus and a Torsen diff.....it will lay two strips of rubber nicely.

I got it Friday afternoon yesterday and spent most of today doing things like changing oil ,clenaing the air filter, Its a k and n knock off, and adjusting the ride height a little on the coil over bilsteins.

It weighs about 2200 and has about 120 hp I think but when you give it the gas the motor feels nice and big!

I am going to try to find some 14" wheels to run the slicks off the benz but tomorrow I will be running the bf goodrich street tires.

Its black on black and I am thinking of painting some stripes on it in Maple yellow, my favorite 123 benz color!

Oh yeah, it has a rorty little muffler on it too.

Excellent move Tom, I would love a miata myself. Krazzy stupid large aftermarket for those too.

I'm not suire how good an autocrosser you are, but if you go in with that miata, the competition is going to heat up quick.

good call !

N'mind the rude comments from those that never drove a Miata. The '99 has 140hp, but that torsen may put you in a very competitive class.
Don't make this a track only car, they are really a lot of fun to drive. I've got a '99 10th Anniversary Edition.

Tom, Good Choice! Lot's of Factory support and parts. If it don't have enough power for your uses, a 302 Ford V8, in Cobra or Roush mods., should take care of that!

You make it sound like the joke that goes "What do a fat girl and a moped have in common?"

Black on black is NOT a chick's car.

If you would have said MGB or Lotus; everyone would be giving you thumbs up;.... the Miata is a mucho better car than anything British/lucas.

Just ignore the comments from the un-enlightened.

Yeah. Just ask 'em to meet you at the track so they can get lapped by it.

Get to know your car. Get to know where the fun twisties are in your area.

Smart arse comments can then be answered with an offer to go for a ride.

Turning the jokester into a hurling pile of queasiness by showing him/her just how girlie your little car is through the curvy bits more often than not does an adequate job of re-setting their opinion.

Even us yada aficionados will forgive you for getting an NB. It seems this is your first Miata. You'll learn. The next one (and there will be a next one) will be an NA. Trust me.

On "Girly" cars

A new Beetle convertible or an old Rabbit cabrio would have been much, much worse.

But some Dodge Caravan or Honda Odyssey would have been utterly unspeakable.
