Computer question
 

In the past months my computer has slwed down alot. Its not to slow on here or BW but its really slow on ebay or checking email and some other sites. I don't have alot of junk on it, mostly just pics(not alot of them). Its a Dell E310, its about 3 years old. Is there any kind of setting I can change or something I can delete off the harddrive?

Do a disk defrag and disk cleanup (windows). Do a spyware scan (Spybot Search/Destroy works well) and a virus scan (i like Avira). That should help..

You may just have to reinstall windows if it's really bad. It's been 3 years for me since I've last done a clean start and I need to do so sometime soon.

how do I do a disk defrag and clean up? Will this delete all my pics and files? Sorry I know next to nothing about computers.

I do have Webroot Spy sweeper with Antivirus installed.

In addition to those things, delete your temporary internet files. Tools>internet options>delete files You can also check the box to delete all offline content. Beware that the consequense of this may be that you will have to re-log into all your email and forums that you frequent. The pages may also load slowly the first time you re-visit a site since it's loading a new cached image.

I hope you don't do a dick defrag. Ouch!
I assume you have XP?
start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup. Then disk defrag.

Go to majorgeeks.com and download free spybot, safe xp, ccleaner (run both cleaner and registry fixer), clean cache, and avast or avg. Run them all.

disc defrag-log as administrator, right click on my computer, then righ manage.

I would get a program such as registry mechanic. Cleans up your registry and keeps it tighty which makes the pc run nice.

I did this speed test and I got 791/64, not to impressive.

I got 1225/144 and my computer is 4 years old and busy doing about 4 things right now... How much memory do you have?

I think its 1gb of memory, does that sound right?

The test is upload and download speed. Internet connection. Not computer speed.

1 gig is enough for xp. 2 is nicer, but works fine at 1gb.

after I did a disk cleanup I re-did the speed test and got 795/66

So you think its my internet being slow and not the computer? I have a laptop using the same internet signal its not slow. BTW, Im using IE with AT&T.

If one works well, then it's probably not your connection.
Get your machine cleaned up.
