Insurance Company screwing me... HELP!!

I just posted the thread about my wrecked 240D, They only want to give me $1700 for it. Well I was fine with that but I talked to roy and he said I need help with this cause I am really getting worked over here. The main problem I have now is they have my title and I signed it :( What do I do next?

If you have signed off - it sounds like your deal is done. No different than you selling me the car for $1700 then calling me the next day and wanting more $$'s.

Why were you fine with it and now changed your mind? Did you check blue book values and ebay listings, etc, etc? Who is this Roy? In any case, you should have consulted others BEFORE you sign it. Now that you have, you have NO recourse.

This just saved you some time.

Well after talking to the insurance company they said that's all it was worth because of the mileage. I thought $1700 was a lot at the time, Well I was told its worth A LOT more and figured it would not hurt to see if there is some way to get more for it because I can not buy another in its condition for $1700. Another problem is I can not afford a lawyer so what was I going to do about it anyway?

Buy it back, and part it out.

Hatterasguy 09-15-2008 09:45 PM

From another thread you said you paid $500 for this car? Well sounds like you made out like a bandit. Go buy another.

KrautWagonGTI 09-15-2008 09:56 PM

I bought the car from a damn ford mechanic that thinks all imported cars are junk so that's why I only paid $500. The problem is finding another sucker because $1700 will only get me a POS merc. I want one in the condition mine was in.

You can find a driver 300SD for that kind of money. It WILL be alot more car than your 240.

The deal is done; you have passed the point of no return; the Pella window of opportunity has been slammed shut. They say it ain't over until it's over. Well, it's over.

You apparently didn't research the price of comparable vehicles in order to find a basis to negotiate a better settlement before you closed the process. Whoops. You've learned a lesson that will become valuable to you should you ever total another car: Negotiate.

I'm learning lol, I drove a 1985 300D turbo today, something must be wrong cause its about as slow as my 240, he wants $2500. no ac, 2 windows dont work, sunroof leaks and needs alignment

Off the line an 85 300D turbo is slow unless you push the pedal all the way to the floor. When 2500 rpms you reach than the power begins to turn on. You can make this happen faster by manually shifting. a project car 300D 123 chassis should be priced 1000- 2000 tops. For $2500 you should expect the interior to be nice, all windows work, and the body rust to be minimal, some blisters in the rear wheel arches, and only a bit of rust in the jack points. The AC in these rarely works in a sub $3000 car.

No way should it be as slow as your 240D. They are actually happy to shift at 2200 RPM or so, with very light accelerator usage, when properly tuned (alda + boost pressure set to spec).

FWIW, My insurance company told me right from the start that they would only pay me what I paid for the car if it was totalled. I have a very nice dealer maintained 300TDT that I paid $3750 for with 120k miles. They said I could get it appraised if I thought it was worth more, but I haven't bothered.
