A new life --- no more disability

As many here may know I am having cervical disc replacement surgery next week and I'm constantly coming up with "I'm going to do this" scenarios. I've had to quit two occupations that I enjoyed do to my neck being so bad so now that it appears that the pain may be coming to an end in the near future I catch myself in a euphoric state of what I am going to do.

#1 is get back on the mountain bike, skiing is up there the doc says is possible but skiing the way I used to ski is dangerous in the first place and I won't be able to tone that level down so he said to stick to mountain biking.

#2 I can take on my old profession(s) if I wish, I was talking to wifey and was commenting that I could get back into electrical or biomed just for grins, side cash whatever.

#3 go back in the Army or its private equivalent. It's really my #1 but wifey keeps moving it to the bottom of the list.

Good luck with the surgery and your decision. My cousin has titanium rods & a rib in her neck after 3 car accidents in 3 consecutive years. She's been able to get back to some of her old shenanigans since the surgery..

It is not often that one gets a "new lease on life" if you will. If I were you I would live each pain free min to the utmost after the surgery. Forget what the dr. says about skiing, what does he know!

Good luck with the surgery and best of luck getting back to fighting shape. I can only imagine what it is like to have that light at the end of the tunnel.

Was your injury service related? The guy who helped me coaching Little League was Airborne, where he messed up his back and neck. He had a couple surgeries prior to my meeting him and had started another round of PT. Not unlike yourself, he had a whole list of things he couldn't wait to do again.

^^ Thanks all, its service related, right now the controversy is who is going to pay for it, the VA or my insurance. The disc replacement is fairly new so the insurance company is attempting to roadblock it and the VA is being the typical PIA because its comprised of incompetent a-holes that have no other place to go. One thing that is screwed up with the VA is that they have some of the best doctors in the world that do work for them for free while the full time VA doc's are typically washouts, those doctors are the ones that approve care.

I hope it goes well and you regain all that you had lost or at least all that you hope to, Jeff.

I'm pulling for you Howie.

Now I understand the other reason why you're looking for a later model Volvo wagon: the seats!

Our S70 has the most comfortable, supportive seats of any car I've ever sat in.
