Actually the people at Fannie and Freddie had their golden parachutes yanked out of their hungry little arms. I am sure that the guys who ean AIG into the ground won't fare much better.

I agree with the analysis of this trend. If the Government keeps this up, they will probably take over Washington Mutual in a couple weeks. (If I had money invested in WaMu, I would not be going WOO HOO any longer)

I wonder where it will end. Will the Feds takeover GM if it goes Chapter 11? Will they take over ExxonMobil in the 'interests of the people'?

Maybe they will take over Monsanto 'to ensure that food is grown and distributed fairly and equally' too...

The bigger issue is how its being paid for. This country is already very deep in the hole.

It's of no consequence if you listen to the proponents.

It may not be socialism exactly, but there are many instances where the government forms partnerships with private industry. Years ago, federal agencies were 100% federal employees. Now, for example, the DOE headcount is something like 85% contractors. The line is blurring on both sides.

I still don't think the government should be in the business of alleviating personal and corporate financial pain though.

.

If you don't like social programs, don't use them.

Don't drive on the roads,
Don't walk on a sidewalk,
Don't send your kids to school,
Don't cash your social security check,
Don't call the fire department when your house catches on fire,
Don't call the police when you get robbed,
Don't drink city water,
Don't flush your toilet if you are connected to a sewer system,
Don't rely on the military to defend you,
Don't rely on government for anything,
Don't feed your starving family with food stamps.
Don't hesitate to be homeless instead of taking housing assistance,
Don't take help from the VA if your hurt in the military

No matter what, don't do any of these things,
or you will become a communist, pinko, leftie, parasite.

American capitalism is in deep crisis but will the masses rise up and sieze control of the levers of power? Nationalise the financial institutions and run them for the benefit of society not for the greedy few.

Boy I hope so. I can just imagine how much better things will be if the masses nationalize industry.
