Does anyone remember...
Does anyone recall which thread had a posting about a 17th-19th Century (Danish?) philosopher/political scientist who traced the commonalities of all great empires and their similar downfalls in a five or six stage categorization
 I was thinking that this latest debacle of the government stepping in to bail out lenders could be considered as bumping us up/down another category toward dependency. Just the philosophers name would be great also, then I'll probably look for his book(s) in the university library.I've searched like crazy and even recall certain follow-up postings by others stating that they thought "we're [America is] right about here" according to where they thought we are/were in particular stages. Verbatim seemingly isn't very effective through the forum search engine. And thank you for your support...

I know of Kierkegaard- but I'm pretty sure it wasn't him because I presume the material I mentioned would be too empirical for his style. Then again, I'm not well versed except for his either/or work.
