The new President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma. It should be interesting. I hope he talks about the growing Chiness influence in Africa, also how Africa can make itself more indusive for investment.

He is talking at SCSU's student center. I guess SCSU has some pretty good ties to various African countries. He is probably the 3rd President/prime minister from that area of the world that I can remember coming to speak at our school.

Just came back.

President Ernest Bai Koroma couldn't be their, he was held up in NY on important UN related busines, but he sent his spokes man and various minsters insted. Pretty much most of his government really. It was still an interesting speach.

I have to say our politicians can learn a thing or two from these guys. They did the typical politcal song and dance, but you got the vide from them that they were truely more interested in helping their country than personaly profiting from there office. The President has refered to himself as the CEO of Sierra Leone and is trying to run it like a company. His minsiters talked about the three basics that are needed for economic growth land, capital, and labor. They are clearly trying to attract capital to grow. They were very happy to have moved from dead last on the ranking of how easy it is to do business in countries to 156, in 6 months. I get the impression that they intend to very quickly keep rising up that list.

They are very practical men, because they have to be. One person asked about health care, and they said that its impossible without money. So its no their first priority at this time. They need to get the lights on, clean water flowing, roads, a stabil food supply, than worry about health care.

They are also pushing very hard to get companies to invest and create jobs. The impression I got from this is if you came to them with a decent business plan and some capital they would make it work. IE say you wanted to set up a resort, or a mine.

Very interesting people, glad I went. Sierra Leone is a country you might want to watch.

They also talked about the civil war and how the "banning" of "blood diamond's" removed a lot of the economic gain and helped them end it.
