Computer help? How to open .doc

I have a laptop with Windows Vista and I am trying to open a downloaded form that ends with the extension ".doc" I can't get it open. What program should I open it with?

Thanks

That's a Microsoft Word document... If you don't have MSWord, you may be able to open it in another program like Word Pad. But, that's Windows XP. I would think Vista has some program to open it...

Microsoft Word should do it.

The answer is related to your recent thread about Excel files.

If you don't have Microsoft Office, but you want to open Microsoft Office documents, you might try OpenOffice.

Werd.

If you have Corel WordPerfect, you might be able to convert a .doc file to a .wpd file and then open it.

If you downloaded it and Vista can't open it you better be double dog sure of its origin. .doc is native to Vista.

Ditto.

The file may contain a .doc extension...but may not necessarily be a Word document...or any document for that matter!

I think you nailed it again. I didn't try that yet, but I think that will work. When I go to open it Wordpad is chosen as the default program to use, and I have to figure out how to change that.

Thanks
