What I miss about LA

Things are not at all good this 9/22/08, but time to plant the garden as they say. So as everything goes to sh-t I’ll blog. Keep six months in the cookie jar by the way – this is gonna hurt.

I was thinking about what I miss about LA, and it’s really not very much. I miss Speedway Bikes on Sat night and Turtle Races at Brennan’s – kinda, but it’s mostly food. I miss getting burgers and rings at “The Shack” in Playa and eating them on the beach at sunset, and going out to Art’s Deli, or those “Heavenly Prawns” from the “Twin Dragon” on Pico and I miss waiting for a spot at the “Apple Pan”. I miss “King Taco” and “Fatburger”, and I miss my wife (passed last year) who I shared these things with. The one thing I seem to be able to recreate very well are “Cupid Dogs”. Never thought much of “Pinks”, but Cupid’s I can do.
Just get some “Wolfs Hot Dog Chile” chop up an onion and steam some Nathan’s dogs. Dogs – chile – onions – and on top some plain old regular mustard. Love it.

Now how much will I have to pay to just to hold T-Bills

Wow!! Didn't mean to sound so gloomy. I'm fine, it's just that I live and breath the markets, and todays reaction may very well be much more than anyone can get a grip on. It will be the end of the first week that tells the tale. Crude was $92 on Thur and traded $130 for a moment today - That's panic

I'm way down at the river near Bisbee.

Sorry to hear about your wife, Crash. Why are you in Arizona? Did you change jobs?

Wow, you named some great places and now I am two hours away. It is not like a walk in the park to get there for me like before. Love King Taco and goning to the Apple Pan late in the evening.

But hang you can always come back and visit, like I do.

Man, if I were in PHX . . . I'd be at Chompie's downing a bagel with belly lox and cream cheese (although I undertand that my favorite one on Greenway is now at PV Mall) . . . having a milkshake at the 5 and Diner . . .

They did open a very nice Chompie's at PV Mall. Costco is due to open there also... Many stores have closed there.

Oh ya! We kept a boat in LA Harbor, and used to go over all the time, but sold it last year. One of my daughters lives in a loft downtown on Grand. What a scene that has become - I mean for LA. Drive into an old office buildings underground parking garage - take the elevator up a few and the door opens into a huge Ralph's. Why Ralph's - I hate Ralph's

Food-wise, I miss Fatburger and I miss the chili burgers at Carney's on Sunset. Overall, however, I really miss leaving the doors and windows open everyday and having a breeze blow through the house. On the other side, however, when I was living in LA, I really missed the Texas rain storms. I've been gone from LA since 1994, and I still prefer Texas.

Sounds like you need to drop everything into oil futures for a week and head to the beach for a visit.

What's up with this thread naming the good places to eat that I used to visit. I also love Chompie's, miss it from my days at ASU.

I'd be careful of what the locals call "mild" salza.
