Road trip to Stuttgart...

After wanting to do this for ages I finally decided to drive my old E300D wagon to Germany... so armed with my friend's sat nav, I set off (on my own -strangely, my girlfriend wasn't interested in driving hundreds of miles across the continent to look at some cars)... here's some pics, hope you enjoy... there's some from the mercedes museum, autobahn driving and a u-boat I visited in northern Germany...

leaving blighty...

I found it!

Thanks,,,, great pics. My brother and I were there in May and had a fabulous time just driving around Europe. I was severely chastised for spending more time at the Mercedes museum than I did at the Louvre. Some people just don't know what's important.

Absolutely awesome pic's. Do you have more to share?

I must make this trip one day. Would love to see that museum. It is hard for me to think of a more fun way to get rid of money than to go on a trip like that.

I absolutely love that old 250CE automatic in there.

We went to Paris and saw the "Mona Lisa" at the Louvre. But we had to go through a whole bunch of other rooms full of paintings to get there.

So very true. I was supposed to go to Stuttgart last year but I got "stuck" just going to London Paris and Amsterdam. So close, but so far away.

thanks for the feedback

I arrived in France (Dunkerque) about 2pm local time, then hit traffic almost straight-away going into Belgium. So that held me up for ages... once it got moving, going into the Netherlands and Germany was pretty quick. I stopped for dinner once in Germany, and got to my hotel in Stuttgart at about 11pm...

It was my first time on the autobahn, a lot of it is restricted to 120kph for cars and there was quite a lot of roadworks, a lot of it is only 2 lanes each way, and there's loooads of trucks clogging up the 'slow' lane... on the unrestricted bits you'd have Mercs, BMW's and Volkswagens flying past... I only did some at 100mph +, mainly to save fuel, but you do get used to driving fast very quickly (and checking your mirrors constantly for that Porsche that's suddenly on your tail...)

. . .Lust. . . and a beaut of a color combo (looks like a maroon interior?). . I have a real affinity for a white vintage MB with white hubcaps. . .

Now off to my "show piece in progress". . .
