check out some of my pics

Tell me what you think? I'm doing a depth of field shoot for class and these are some of the shots that I like..

I will post them with the first using an F stop of 4 and then F 16

thanks to eagle-co94 for letting me take pics of his desert eagle.

I think I may need to reshoot.. my focus seems to be off.

Ahh, you people and your free time....

I got a new D-SLR, and have not had like 10 minutes of free time to even set it up to charge.

I like the fourth shot the best. The contrast between the shiny shell casings and the pavement is interesting, the dead dried out leaves and nut shells seem to bring it home.

use a polarized filter for everything outside, you will be amazed how much better the shots will look.

I remember taking a photography class that discussed this at night school. It was good fun.

Take a dark room class next, you'll have a blast.

Ah, brings back memories of college and my photo class...

Don't forget to adjust your shutter speed when you change f-stops so the exposure will look even. You'll have to adjust both shutter and aperature each time if you're running on manual or...

Just put the camera in "aperature priority" mode then simply select f4 or f16 and the camera will automatically adjust shutter speed.

If I remember correctly, a Desert Eagle is a .50cal semi-auto. Pick your target, ready, steady, aim, squeeze gently . . . watch target disappear...

Seems to me that a .50cal pistol should kick like a mule - did Eagle-Co94 let you shoot it?

As for the pics, you're improving in your skills.

Depth of field is an integral part of "forming the picture" that you wish to have as the end result. It's a lot of work, as you noticed the difference immediately that more depth of field (small aperture/big f-stop #) = less light = darker shot. Less depth of field (big aperture/small f-stop #) = more light = brighter shot. Great things about newer digital cameras is that most have modes where you can set the aperture you want and it will choose the shutter speed necessary to provide a properly exposed picture. Many allow bracketed exposures which will take 3 or more pictures "around" the settings you've selected.

All this being said, I still set my Canon EOS Digital Rebel on "auto" most of the time. I've got some amazing shots - but thank goodness it's digital - 'cause I've got far more crap than anything...

Nice photos Joe. Here are my favorites.

I think this one would be better if the focus was on the tip of the barrel. It loos like you got just behind the tip on the side.

This pic is great as is. I could see this being used in a magazine article about gun control or gang wars.

Keep up the good work. You're getting NOTICEABLY better.

Yea, I need a filter.

This is a dark room class. Last week I processed my B&W film and printed some shots

I wish I had an Ap priority.. its a spotmatic and I didn't see an "Ap priority" setting for aperature.

my mistake, my lowest Ap setting is a F1.4.. I've got the lowest F-Stop in class, second lowest is like a 2.8 or something

You are correct on the kick it produces...re-coil will bring it up over your head. I own one of these beasts. I also own the S&W 500, which is a .50cal 5 shot revolver.

Both are fun to shoot!

Lens perspective and aperture can be used quite effectively to draw the viewer's attention to the subject. Telephotos are great for producing compressed pictures like you often see of cars coming around corners looking very flat and more beefy than in real life.

I hope you have a lot of fun with it, Joe.
