New exterior doors
I know we've beaten the window issue to death, but I'm looking for a new front door and wondered what brands any of you may have bought and what you thought of them.

Atrium sliders suck so bad, stay away.
Anderson, Marvin, and Harvey are the best. Their is another company called Silver Line, by Anderson. I'm going to use their windows in the raised ranch I'm building. There prices are good, but the quality seems slightly better than Atrium. http://www.silverlinewindow.com/index_noflash.cfm

Are you looking for an energy saving improvement or just a different look? There's got to be some great salvage/reclamation places in your neck of the woods. Obviously vintage stuff won't compare efficiency-wise but it's usually a lot better looking and often far better made.

I'm going for decent looking but way more efficient. I'm going to get some kind of fiberglass door. I can see light around the edges of the one that's there now.

I always thought that was some sort of anti-carbon monoxide device?

If it is, then mine has served me well.
I have gotten a quotation from one company who is pushing Feather River doors. I've never heard of those. I don't know if they're any good or not. Anybody else here had any experience with those?

We got Andersen French Doors installed on our other house on the coast. The fit and finish is pretty good on them, and we really like the smokedness of them.
We got two of them installed on the side that faces the ocean, and it does a good job of sealing out the elements. Oh, and it cut the energy bill in half.

I too am looking to replace my double door in the front.
I got a quote from feather river doors from HD for almost 3500.00. Ouch! They are supposedly well made and are hurricane rated here in Dade county. Keep us posted!

Yikes! That's a lot. I got a price of $1800 installed. I thought that seemed like a lot for one door. I guess it's not so bad.

We pay about $200 for cheap fiberglass front doors. Installation is usualy pretty straight forward. On the new houses the framer does it, on the old stuff one of the subs. No idea what it costs, but not that much.

I replaced all of my windows with Andersen bought from Habitat for Humanity stores. Good thing is I bought the windows first, and made the openings to match. Much easier than having to match windows to existing openings. I would check there if you have one up that way.

I had a Larson plastic covered wood door on the front of the house for a couple years until the sunlight destroyed the plastic coating...
It was pretty pricey too but just didn't last... Now I have an aluminum storm door with full glass covering a fiberglass covered steel core door and they're awesome!
