Can I use 2 cpu's for QB pro?

In other words, can I work from my office cpu then go home and work on my laptop?

I know about the backup and restore feature, but I am wondering the following:

If I use the laptop at home and forget to backup, then I go to the office and work some more and do backup, won't I lose stuff in the process?

This happened to me last night and now I don't remember if I backed up at the office today or not.

I hate accounting..........

You wont lose anything until you "update" one or the other. Of course you also wont have a complete copy of data on either computer either.

If it works like Quicken and I suspect it does, when you do a backup, it copies a set of files to a location that you specify.

It's important that you be working from the same file as changes on one file won't automatically be transferred to the other computer and vice versa. I would suggest having two USB drives - one for the working file and the other for the backups. Keep the working file ONLY on the one USB drive and not on the computer's hard drive. Carry the USB drive with you and work off of it wherever you are and then insert the other USB drive and backup to it.

Or... Keep a copy of the master file on each computer and each day, when you're done do a backup to the USB drive. Then, take the USB drive with you and if you need to work on another computer, FIRST, do a restore off that USB drive, do your work and when complete, do a backup to the USB drive from that computer so it'll be ready for the next time you have to work.

This way the USB drive will always have an updated copy of the file on it.

I was thinking the same thing! I really didn't do too much on this one today that I can't double back and duplicate at home, so I should be ok, I hope.

I worked on one yesterday and didn't back up. Now I worked at another cpu today, if I back up from this cpu and then restore, I will lose the info from last night.

I'll figure something out, then only work from one. Too confusing!

This brings up a very sore subject for me. I would hope there is a special, very nasty place in hell for the people responsible for the QB programs. I have had no end to the number of problems with QB and their updated versions. I hate them so bad I really can't express it on this forum.

You can use www.gotomypc.com and use your laptop to control anything on your office computer.

Set up a VPN which is very easy it like gotomypc, but its free and much faster.

About that time. Our accountant finally came in and got us up to speed and all seemed ok for a time. Then I went to restore the files from our main machine to my laptop and the whole mess started all over again.
