Atlanta - Things for a Mercedesshop tourist to do?

I'm in Atlanta through Monday and could use some suggestions here.

It's my first time ever in ATLANTA or the South ever in fact and I could really use a few suggestions for my free time. I am here alone, and not especially interested in theme parks, or crass money grabbing tourist things, and family/children stuff (as I don't have any here with me....)

I have already made plans for a visit with the owner of AMG East but beyod that I am pretty clueless, so any suggestions welcomed.

I have a car rented and my GPS with me.....so doan yew worry yore purdy little hayeads about thayat!!! lol

Thanks for your help!!!

The Underground is interesting to see and I'm not into shopping, but it's cool to at least walk through and check it out. I enjoyed the Coke Factory tour too. You can taste all the Coke products of the world.

Sorry, they don't have any of the "original" formula around anymore.

Atlanta tips

The Georgia Aquarium is an absolute must see. Don't miss it if you're in Atlanta, it is extraordinary.

If you want a great steak, go to Kevin Rathbun Steak or Bone's, those are the two best in town.

Like live jazz? Check out Churchill Grounds - it's right next to the Fox Theatre on Peachtree in Midtown.

I would second that.

If you like vintage racing you should go to Road Atlanta this weekend. It's the season finale weekend for the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association.

If you want to have a nice drive in the Mountains and see some early fall color then head up to Helen, GA and maybe Brasstown Bald. There's a great little sandwich shop right on the river in Helen.

If you are in Atlanta, I'm sure there are red light districts where you can "do" some hookers.

Take a drive through Buckhead and look at the homes. Peachtree Battle Ave., Habersham, West Paces Ferry, Tuxedo Road. Take Peachtree Road north from downtown and turn left (west) at Peachtree Battle. Then stay between Peachtree Road (eastern boundary) and Northside Drive (western boundary). Weave around basically working your way north to West Paces Ferry - take a look at the governor's mansion and the club on WPF. Take a look at all the 150+ year old oak trees which are slowly suffering from our lack of rain.

Visit the Marriott Marquis downtown just to go in the lobby and look upward. Visit the Hyatt Regency (Portman's first open atrium hotel about a block away) and see how open atria have evolved.

Visit the MLK museum downtown. My children went to school at Westminster in Atlanta and the school made a point of making sure each student made the trip. It is worth it.

Traffic is pretty tough so make your visits between 9AM and about 4PM.

If you are into the "hip" side of things, check out Little Five Points.

Go to Greenbriar Mall and get some custom made chains and a few pairs of Air Force Ones, and then go see the donked out Caprices in College Park and East Point.

All kidding aside, everyone has made pretty good suggestions. Aside from just visiting the MLK center, I suggest you actually walk down "Sweet Auburn", it's chock full of history. Go see the Fox Theater, have a meal at Mary Macs on Ponce de Leon NE. Somebody already mentioned the "CoCola" tour and the aquarium. CNN's also there, you can see the cell where they keep James Earl Jones and force him to do voiceovers.

I went to Atlanta for business a while back. Everybody was friendly, even the guys running the metal detectors at the airport. Stark contrast to people here in Northern Virginia. People around here won't even make eye contact.
