Modifying old Electric Frame Lift
I bought a 4 post frame lift that is designed to lift cars and trucks on the frame. As 'our' cars do not have frames, My thought would be to position lifting beams to the axle or the cross members.
This is a 4 post lift that has two rails that run across the length of the lift and two cross beams that can be slid up and down the rails so that you can position them on the frame or the axle. I would like to know if it's feasible to extend those cross beams so that that I can lift the car on the jacking points and hence prevent any unnecessary damage to the exhaust system. This is a basic diagram of the lift. Let me know your thoughts.

It looks like it should work. Was the motor trouble fixed? Just curious. Good Luck.

I'm hoping it will loosen up completely over time.

A block of wood under the corners of the tub works well most of the time. Jack points are good too. I would skip the axles.

Fred, you'll have to take a look at the lift sometime. Metal cross member does not extend all the way to the corners.
It sure is old :-)

I meant have the lift points be the corner of the car tub, the lower corners where the vertical sides of the compartment meet the bottom. Hopefully the cross members can reach those. Do they have adjustable arms at all?
