No Love for the POTUS
New approval ratings at 27%
Candidate Sen. John Mccain, in response to a question from the Washington Times about "what things have not gone well" under the Bush administration, the candidate recounted a host of issues: "Spending, the conduct of the war in Iraq for years, growth in the size of government, larger than any time since the Great Society, laying a $10 trillion debt on future generations of America, owing $500 billion to China, obviously, failure to both enforce and modernize the [financial] regulatory agencies that were designed for the 1930s and certainly not for the 21st century, failure to address the issue of climate change seriously," McCain said. et tu, Brutus? |

That covers some of it.
I'll add: ---- failure to institute a comprehensive energy policy to reduce fossil fuel consumption. ---- failure to properly execute the war in Afghanistan. ---- failure to properly execute a federal response to an internal disaster. ---- failure to do the job that he was paid to do (with a preference for ongoing vacations). ---- failure to develop and keep worldwide allies. ---- failure to maintain the image of America as a leader in the world. In general, a total and unmitigated disaster on all possible issues. All those who voted for him deserve what they got...........unfortunately so did all we all. |

However the White House was more than gracious:
At a briefing Thursday, White House press secretary Dana Perino was asked for reaction to McCain's criticism in The Washington Times. "I'm not going to comment on the words that our candidate chooses to use," Perino said. "All I'll say is that the president stands by his policies. He also stands by John McCain." |

27%? Wow, that's more than I would have thought. GWB is someone we would all like to forget (like Jimmy Carter, except I think he is making a comeback in a different color). Bush may be judged a bit better years from now, but we will all be dead then. He has been a disaster.

What I want to know is, where do they go to still find 27%....
"In general, a total and unmitigated disaster on all possible issues. All those who voted for him deserve what they got...........unfortunately so did all we all." Exactly. |

Until recently I was convinced that history would treat W better than his approval ratings indicate. For one thing, I figured that there is too much money to be made from Iraqi oil for it to remain so dysfunctional. Whether it's big oil companies, Arab sheiks, or whomever, I figure somebody will take control of that country. If so, then historians may look back and say that W made it all possible.
Now, I am not so sure. He is leaving this country worse than he found it. He is going out on such a down note, I am not sure that his reputation will ever be saved. Time will tell. |

He will have the reputation of having both the highest and lowest approval ratings of any modern president.
