I heard about this on the radio today.

Basically, the theory is that white voters will tell pollsters that they would vote for a black candidate so as to not appear racist.

There's also the bandwagon effect, where people tend towards conclusions that seem to be gaining wide approval. Who knows, might cancel out.

There is also a reverse-Bradley effect wherein white voters will not admit they are voting for a black man.
