Sobering memo from GM...

“We outpaced the competition with our sales results in August and September, and fell back with the industry in October. If you adjust for population growth, this is probably the worst industry sales month in the post-WWII era,”

Looked at the figures...other than Chevy sedans and Saab (both posting moderate losses), every other division was down 1/2 to 2/3 in sales volumes!! Scary!

Look further down at the trucks and suv's! Some are down over 70%!

Hummer is dead, the whole division is down just about 65%. I can't imagin its viable anymore.

They cut production 25% and they are still going to be making to many cars. They really need to cut production another 25%-30%.

From TTAC

[The following analysis was sent to TTAC by a New York City bankruptcy lawyer who wishes to remain anonymous. It's twice as long as our usual editorial, but I think you'll find it's well worth your time. Thanks to you-know-who-you-are.] Cerberus Capital, a highly secretive NYC-based vulture investment fund, wants the U.S. government and taxpayers to bailout its failed investment in Chrysler and its failing investment in GMAC. Its partner in this raid on the US Treasury is General Motors, a woefully insolvent automobile manufacturer whose CEO is paid $40k each day. Here's why a bailout for GM and/or Chrysler is a bad idea.

Editorial: Why the GM/Cerberus/Chrysler Bailout is bad for taxpayers and doomed to fail without the benefits of a Chapter 11 filing for both Chrysler and GM

The news isn't much better over at MBUSA this past quarter. German factories are on a 5 week "holiday" due to low demand.

Read the data.

The car production is down 12% YTD as compared to 2007. Hardly alarmist considering the environment.

Trucks and $hitboxes are going to take it harder..........

2008 C350 for 22k out the door....

I talked to someone at the GM/Caddy dealer. They have 3 loaded 'Sclades on their lot and have been there close to 8 months now. They are marked down like 25k now.

We were looking at a new R-Class. It was like 45k, marked down from 65k.

Might as well go for a GL at that point.

I was thinking another G, but there were no discounts available for it.... They usually do not have any new ones sitting on their lot.

They did have a 2008 S600 marked down to 98k.

My brother's M/B dealership likes to move 120 cars per month and did so all of last year.

They really felt the pinch when the monthly count dropped to about 90 cars a few months ago.

That might have been tolerable...........last month (October).............the figure dropped to 53.

They got cars coming out of every orifice.........and nowhere to put 'em.
