Talking VW's don't like me...

Trying to clean up the Golf round 1.

I got in and turned the key, so far so good the lights came on and everything. Made sure it was out of gear, pushed down the clutch and tried to start it, nothing notta. Now I'm like damn the battery is dead, but I just took the charger off, its fully charged? So I put the window down and tried again, to see if I can hear the starter solenoid click, no click, hmm. I try again and it cranks very slowly, than faster, hmm stop and pull the key out, and the alarm goes off! WTF? POS German crap. So I pop the hood and try to figure out how to open the damn thing as the alarm beeps like crazy. Couldn't find the little hidden latch. Finnaly get the hood open, crap battery termanly badly corroded! Losen bolt, smack with my special VW mini sledge and it comes off! Sweet silence!

This one is thankfully in far better shape than last years Jetta. But its a stick and I hate stick's.

I also stuck myself with the way to sharp corner of the damned door.

Lol, Hattie I recently performed the alarm castration surgery on my wife's Jetta III. I used the same reference page you linked to. Seems like a common problem after the car ages a while. The alarm would go off randomly, very annoying.

Other than a few other electrical gremlins, it's been a great, reliable little car.

The alarm goes off when you reconnect the battery on the early models. If the connection was bad it probably de-powered the alarm long enough to set it off.

When the alarm goes off the ignition is disabled until you de-arm it with the key in the door. The only things that can set the alarm off are the hood switch, rear lid switch, door switches, radio switch, or ignition. The system isn't that hard to troubleshoot...

Yeah I'm sure I can fix it, but the car isn't worth my time to trouble shoot. A snip and butt connector is about all its worth.

Just don't do what my buddy did.

Bought an old 4 cylinder jetta, traded it for a 6 cylinder jetta, got disappointing with the fuel economy, traded the 6 cylinder for another 4 cylinder jetta.

Each of the 3 cars had issues that he fixed.....I should get him a calculator to find out how much $ he's wasted so far.
