Saw this ad and wanted opinions

I saw this while browsing craigslist and just wanted to get some opinions on the price, is it worth taking a look, and I also asked if there were any pre-existing problems with the car or anything else that has been found sense he ripped open the oil pan and he claims no to both.

http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/912890545.html

So, is there something I should look for or better yet how much damage and to where do you guys think this car could have received if he really did take it over a median.

any help would be great.

thank you,
dan

What are your plans for it? You have to consider that the engine is toast. Did he shut off the engine in time? I can't imagine anyone could react quickly enough.

There isn't much to those pictures but those sure look like hubcaps on 15" steel wheels. I'm looking for a set of 15" steel wheels if someone here picks up that car and doesn't want the wheels.

I sent him another email just before posting this requesting better pictures.

The whole thing has my head foggy, I would am thinking that this is to good to be true and that the engine has to be toast but than I get that little kid side of me that is just hoping that is could be ok, if the car stalled or it was turned off right away that maybe it would be ok to drive for a year or two before I pulled the motor and built something a bit quicker.

Also, it was mentioned that it was a Sports Ed (edition) but I am thinking they got confused and it is really a SportsLine.

would that be correct,

Well, this keeps getting better and better. I would have to say that if BIG IF this is the real car and someone put MB TEX in it, I can say that it would make no difference to me.

but it seems like it is less than what it should, and this person was e mailing back and forth pretty decent and when I asked for better pics he stopped writing back.

The ad claims it was owned by a Mercedes tech...which makes me suspicious.

Why would someone who could easily fix such an inexpensive issue let go of that car for so little?

It looks like a decent deal even with a toasted engine. It sounds like it may be a euro though and I would be sure it has AC before buying it. I would think it would not be too hard to find a good used gasser six to drop in.....or if you are economy minded a four would also work.

Not like the engine is irreplaceable right? Just a 2.6.

Hell maybe you could drop a 3.0 into that sucker!
