Smile Saw my first...

School had just ended and I was driving down a congested drop off area and saw a red, tires taller than my 300e, truck whoring the road. Being my pretentious self I started complaining as it approached because I had to steer a little to the right. Soon after that my friend pointed out that that truck was a Mercedes (she knows I'm a fan...) and after squinting a bit I read UNIMOG above a three pointed star.

She asked what it was, and all I could manage to get out of my mouth was 'a unimog is...well, a unimog'

couldn't really provide a definition, they just are?

Thought I'd share; it made my day.

Their cool. We went wheeling with a Unimog group in G. Its was awesome, as nothing could stop them... Other than small places.

I see them once in awhile. Most recently in the teachers parking lot at my school.

I used to see hundreds of them when I was in the army back in South Africa. The standard SA Army troop carrier called the "Buffel", or Buffalo in English was a modified Unimog.

It *was* used to haul people. It's obsolete now. Basically a Unimog with the cab and bed substituted for a drivers cubicle (open on the top) and a bin with seats for 10. Five facing each side. The u-shaped cutouts at the top of the sides of the bin were for rifles theoretically - though troops would seldom actually shoot from them. The lower sides of the bin were steeply v-shaped to defect land mine blasts.

to the OP

Call it a cross between a truck and a tractor.

I thought really hard for a while about getting one to plow my snow with....but after reflection I happened one day to see one in person and realized that there was a good chance of hurting my self falling out of it!

The cab is really high off the ground!
