Ford Flex Limited

Driving in for the few hours of work today, I came up alongside what I thought was a "monster" version of a Mini Clubman

Then I saw the blue oval . . . and laughed my head off for a half mile.

I like the look of these things, they are pretty cool looking and the inside is really nice.

I think they are rather cool too. Absolutely cavernous inside too. Not that I'd ever buy it but it looks much better than a Honda Element or Scion.

Unfortunately it's rated at 17 mpg city.. doh. I think people are looking at mpg even more these days, this thing is destined to die.

Somehow, "Flex" is not something that I want in my car.
I prefer "solid".

I know.
I have visions of my 1912 Rambler flexing like hell over the R.R. tracks.

However, the Flex seems the closest thing to my '57 Plymouth Suburban wagon. Why,in a flying f*ck off a rolling donut can't they do it right?

It seems to have plenty of storage space, great vehicle for cleaning out houses for antiques, etc. BUT,it is very overpriced, particularly with the anemic engine options and auto tranny.

We had a '57 Plymouth Suburban station wagon. The worst car in the world. It was the trigger for my dad to start buying Mercedes.

I beg to differ from that assessment. It may have leaked thru the front windows, may have had sloppy power steering but the 2 speed Powerflite never failed and I rebuilt the "wedge head"V8 at 99k at which mileage I bought the car.

I have,of course replaced all the wheel bearings, bushings, control arms, etc, thus it has proven itself quite reliable, although it corners like the Q.E.II in a hard'a starboard squall.

I applaud Ford and their car product line - the european stuff is excellent (especially the Mondeo), but we in the US get the generic crap that Ford makes. I like it when auto companies take a chance, regardless if it's pass or fail, and I like the Ford came out with the Flex - it's a suitable alternative to the SUV if you're fuel concerned.

The Jaguar X-type is based on the Mondeo. So in a way, you can get one here.

My wife loves them and I kinda like them (I do like the look). I'd much prefer it to a minivan to which we are currently beholden. I figure I'd give them a couple years to get some miles on them to see what breaks and then maybe pick up a used one.
