From the Krugman video on the left; "talking about parallels with the Great Depression, may not become all that hard to do."

I was in the bank today when that "We're in a recession" blipped across the screen. I said to the teller "Gee no s***. We need an expert to tell us the economy's going down the drain?"

My investments are still doing OK.

Someone told me were in a recession and I snapped back "No *****.... How did you come up with that?"

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I knew once 2008 started that we were in one, now is the part where it gets really deep!

Thankfully I just sold the used house we were sitting on so now were not sitting on much! Now my investments are doing OK. As long as I can keep selling stuff at a reasonable rate this is a good market. Deals are everywhere.

Yep, a pretty good amount of deals. There is a duplex for sale locally for $80k. My dad has been kicking around the idea of getting it and renting it out.... Would make that money back fast, even today.

My friend was high on life 2 years ago. Had 5 properties, new Lexus, doing well.

Sold two houses, and lost the other three in the past 6 months. Lexus is scheduled to get re-poed in a week.

Justin if it cash flows positive buy it! Cash flow is still hard to get around here on the small stuff. The numbers are closing in, but still don't make sense.

Cash flowing properties should always be bought, more so in this market since this is very much a buy and hold market. Since your making money holding it you can afford to wait as long as needed, until you die and trust it to your heirs if you want. My buy and sell strategy is bucking it, so I don't make as much.

I'm betting your friend's properties were not cash flow positive...

Right now my money is in two dirt building lots. As long as you can get them for $50k-$100k, even the postage stamp ones can be profitable. But in this market paying $50k is really what you want.

Ouch.
We're ok here.
Most of it is the ranch/airport and we arent looking to sell it anytime soon. A few rentals that do good. Most of the dirt is for the long run.

The aluminum is still making money. As for selling... The high end units aren’t going anywhere any time soon. The rest... make an offer.

Haw...aluminum; it's plane to see you're talking about more of a finished product, right? Had me guessing there for a minute since Alcoa has closed Rockdale ingot operations and the market price is down $300/ton since last spring.

I hope Alcoa doesn't close the plant near my city, we are almost giving them the power...

I heard a couple of people on radio and TV say that the news that we are in an official recession caused the big drop in the Dow Jones yesterday. If that is true, then apparently the recession was news to a lot of people. Seems odd to me.

If you remember Skid Row Joe you amy recall his parroting of talk radio hosts saying there is no recession, not to mention that 90% of the workers bee's have no idea what a recession is. No idea being I don't think they could get it right on a true of false quiz.

they know how to use the word though
