Although we now recognize prohibition as a silly idea, it served an even more important role in US history. Prohibition arose from the temperance movement, a largely female organized group intent on keeping their men sober. With that, came the right to vote followed by women's lib, feminism, yada yada. So if women had never shown that they had a voice, they might have still been slaving in the kitchen, fetching their men their slippers and popping out babies.
