Angry US teacher detains student for using Linux

http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2232488/teacher-slams-linux

A teacher in Austin, Texas has lashed out against the open-source Linux operating system, punishing one of her students for demonstrating and handing out copies of the HeliOS Linux distribution and writing an email to the distributor claiming the software may be illegal.

What a retard and she is teaching.........

I have a hard time believing this is real. I know there are idiots on the planet but at some point we, as a planet need to call BS and say no. That is too stupid and it did not happen. I feel much more comfortable believing that the letter if a fake used by the Linux folks to get a little PR (I don;t think that is a bad thing). I like that scenario much better than the one where we have a teacher that bloody stupid teaching our kids.

I reject your reality and substitute my own

I wonder where she'd been the last 25 years? I remember first installing Linux on a partition on one of the University library computers. That was like 20+ years ago.

Exactly my thoughts, actually Linux is older than Windows, of course Unix goes back even further so her lack of awareness on Linux indicates a true hick.

The word kb and even mb is almost non entity now. One thing I don't miss is the crappy floppies, I embraced CDROM with enthusiasm, I have suffered through countless of corrupted floppies including NT start disc to despise that media. With hdd space at a premium, hard back up was another luxury those days and therefore copy to floppy was a must and then the paradox of data corruption. Most BIOS had to be flashed via floppy and that was another dicey aspect if the floppy had a corrupted BIOS file, there goes your motherboard.

There are teachers who do not know that New Mexico is a State of the USA.
Teachers are not the best and brightest. Not to say that there are not intelligent, hard-working, dedicated teachers at all levels, but many studies show that, as a class, education majors are not as sharp as say, Engineers, or Math Majors.

I had a conference with one of my sons' teachers, some years ago in which the poor woman did not use one grammatically correct sentence in our 15 minute interview.

"...me and the girls went out..."

That type of crap?

I'm sorry to hear you lost those 15 minutes of your live sitting through that interview...
