What the heck is this thing?

So as some of you may know my wife and I are looking for a car for our summer home. We where looking online and came across a 2002 E320 Special Edition. We already own one so we know how great of a car it is and all. But on this pic we saw something different and its hard to identify. http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mercedes_benz-e_class-pictures-cars294797938;_ylt=AhPZ_dxkBL3bTUABG6Sr.4jTbY54;_ylv=3?sortcol=price&sortdir=up&start=16&modelyearub=2002&modelyearlb=2002&askpriceub=any&askpricelb=any&deliverymileageub=75000&deliverymileagelb=any&location=Ballston+Spa%2C+NY+12020&listingtype=used&model=e_class&make=mercedes_benz&distance=any&picstart=2

What on earth is that screen? Where is the AC Climate control.

They relocated the AC controls somewheres.

Where? Where could they relocate them too? I have never even seen this before.

Try the glovebox or the console cubbyholes.

They must get lost more often than they get hot or cold.

I think it's one of those "sync" type systems where everything (hvac, nav, radio) is integrated into the screen. I can't see too clearly but I believe you can access functions through the steering wheel buttons.

Those screens are tied to front-bumper-mounted cameras so that your backseat passengers can scream in your ears that your about to hit something in front of you...

Screen might be for an After-market video/sound system (as part of the monitors in the headrests) - Maybe that "E" was "Whipped" - like some of those cars on the cable show "WHIPS" -

I don't pay much attention to electronics, but are you sure that's not just the MB Command system? It was an option on that car, though very few were equipped with it. Seems more likely than spending the bucks to move the climate control head.

OK, I did some rooting around and I believe this is an Eclipse AVN2454 or AVN2494. As far as I can tell, it's not integrated into the climate control system so they must have moved it somewhere else... Maybe in the cubby under the unit?

Almost certainly it is in the glasses cubby. The real question is why didn't they get the piece without the cubby, with a dual-din bay. It would look much nicer.
